dr. terry im, dds, ms

Dr. Terry Im is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, specializing in non-surgical and surgical maintenance of teeth and replacement of lost teeth with implants.

At age seven, Dr. Im immigrated to the U.S. from Seoul, Korea with his family. He grew up in Fresno, CA and after completing Bullard High School with high honors, he entered undergraduate studies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). At UCLA, he studied human and animal physiology and in 1998 received a B.S. in Biology. He continued his education at Cal Poly Pomona and finished a two year post-graduate program in Nutrition.

In 2002, Dr. Im began his journey in the field of dentistry when he was admitted into the University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry (UCSF). During his studies at the university, he was quickly recognized by his peers and faculty for his skills and dedication to the field. Impressed with the new techniques developed for saving teeth and technological advances in implants, Dr. Im became increasingly drawn to the field of periodontics. In 2006, after graduating from dental school at the top of his class, he gained admission to UCSF Periodontal Residency - a specialty program focusing on advanced surgical interventions for treatment of periodontal disease, cosmetic tissue reshaping, and replacement of missing teeth with implants. During the residency, Dr. Im was recognized for his leadership and teamwork and was elected chief resident two years in a row.

Dr. Im received a Masters degree in Cranial and Facial Sciences from UCSF upon completion of the periodontal residency in 2009. His research was focused on halitosis, and was published in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology. Dr. Im completed anesthesia training at the UCSF Ambulatory Center and is certified in IV conscious sedation and oral conscious sedation.

When not practicing periodontics, Dr. Im devotes his time to his family and playing golf. He lives with his wife, two kids and his best friends - Mimi the beagle and Miles the weimaraner.


dr. adrienne gunstream, dds, ms

Dr. Adrienne Gunstream was born and raised in NW Indiana. After graduating from Northwestern University, she moved to San Francisco to attend dental school. While a dental student at University of the Pacific (UOP), Dr. Gunstream developed an interest in the specialty of periodontics. She received her specialty training at the University of California - San Francisco, where she also conducted a research project on biofilm eradication and completed a Graduate Degree in Oral and Craniofacial Sciences. As a board certified periodontist, she is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.

After completing her periodontal training at UCSF, Dr. Gunstream began practicing periodontics in the Bay Area. In 2009 she relocated to Iowa and founded Eastern Iowa Periodontics in 2009. She continued practicing there until 2016 when her husband's job change brought her back to the Bay Area.

In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Gunstream was a faculty member at UOP's School of Dentistry from 2007-2009, and at University of Iowa College of Dentistry from 2009-2016. She was a continuing education provider for the state of Iowa and frequently lectured at state and local dental meetings.  She served as President of the Iowa Society of Periodontology and President of the Johnson County Dental Society.

Dr. Gunstream is currently a member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the San Mateo County Dental Society, and the American Academy of Periodontology.

In her free time, Dr. Gunstream enjoys spending time with her husband and two kids, and finding fun things to do in the Bay Area.
